South Alabama Land Trust
The South Alabama Land Trust (SALT) is dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of coastal Alabama through land protection and environmental education. Since its founding in 1990—as the Weeks Bay Foundation—SALT has preserved over 10,800 acres of sensitive habitat across Baldwin and Mobile counties through conservation easements, land donations, and purchases. These conserved lands safeguard clean water, wildlife habitats, and outdoor recreation opportunities for present and future generations. (southalabamalandtrust.org)

Mobile Baykeeper
Mobile Baykeeper is on a mission to defend and revive the health of Coastal Alabama’s waterways. Since its founding in 1997, this dedicated group has worked tirelessly to ensure fish are safe to eat, swimmers are protected, and fragile ecosystems like seagrasses and oyster reefs recover. They take a three-pronged approach—Research, Collaboration, and Education—to safeguard our watershed. This includes examining permit applications, partnering with diverse groups to amplify impact, and empowering the public with accurate, actionable information.

Mobile Baykeeper leads meaningful restoration efforts such as the Oyster Keepers program, where volunteers help grow oysters in baskets to strengthen reefs and improve water quality. Their goal: deploy 150,000 oysters in Mobile Bay by 2025, and reach 500,000 by 2027.

They also run the NextGen Baykeepers after-school initiative, inspiring youth through kayaking, nature-based STEAM learning, environmental stewardship, and hands-on projects.

From monitoring pollution and responding to community concerns to launching oyster, youth, and restoration programs—Mobile Baykeeper is a vital defender of our water, wildlife, and way of life.
